Plan Allowances Explained

At Amnet we divide our plan allowances into two quotas or allowances - Peak & Off-Peak Allowance. For instance our ADSL 2+ 'Enabled' $39 plan includes a 8GB Peak Allowance and 12GB Off-Peak Allowance. What's more Amnet provides customers a bonus 200% Peering bonus, which can be used for specific local traffic (explained further below). For example using the previous example a customer would have 16GB Peak Peering Allowance and 24GB Off-Peak Peering Allowance on top of their standard Peak & Off-Peak Allowance.

Please note that were we refer to "download" we are talking about information or "data" you receive from the Internet. For example, by using your Internet browser to visit www.google.com you receive information, this information makes up the content you see, such as the Google logo.

What Is A Peak + Off-Peak Allowance?

To offer our customers more value we divide our download allowances or quotas into two time slots - Peak and Off-Peak. Peak times are from 7:00am to 11:59:59pm and Off-Peak from 12:00am Midnight to 6:59:59 am. Except on weekends, because Amnet gives you all 48 hours of every weekend Off-Peak. We realise there is no point having a large allowance and no time to use it, so we've given you more time to benefit from your Off-Peak Allowance.

What Happens If I Exceed My Allowance?

One of the best things about your Amnet plan is that you don't get charged excess fees. This, however, means that to offer this advantage your service is "shaped" when you exceed your download allowance or quota. We use the term "shaped" when we refer to your broadband service being slowed down. By doing this we still allow you to use the Internet at no extra cost. The speed to which your service is slowed to is 128kbps, which still gives you the freedom to browse the web, send emails and much more. What's more Amnet also offers what we call Additional Allowance Packs, this service allows you to purchase more allowance or quota. The benefit of which is that it removes shaping from your service and restores it to full speed. Purchasing an Additional Allowance Pack provides 1GB of Peak Allowance, 1.5GB of Off-Peak Allowance, 2GB of Peak Peering Allowance and 3GB of Off-Peak Peering Allowance.

What Is A Peering Allowance?

Peering is an agreement for the exchange of data traffic between Internet Service Providers at a local point of interconnect. Put simply, it means that peered data comes from a local point and does not go out to the Internet, therefore "Peering Allowance" refers to data from a peered website or information source. The result means the following benefits for you:

  • Faster browsing of websites and downloading
  • Improved speed and performance to content from other peered Australian ISP’s
  • More than ‘double’ your download allowance when combined with your normal "Download Allowance"

Where Can I Find These Peered Websites?

Below are a few examples of websites that are peered through WA based peering network WAIX. Amnet subscribes to the WAIX association, similarly in SA, Amnet uses Pipe Networks to provide our customers access to the benefits of peering. For more information on WAIX please click here to visit the peering association's website. For information on Pipe Networks in SA click here.
