The following questions and answers will provide you with information on installing and configuring your Amnet Dialup service. We have also included some common scenarios which might help you troubleshoot an issue you may have.

My dialup disconnects after I check for new emails

I get disconnected after checking for new emails, whats wrong?
If your your dialup connection disconnects when checking emails, your email client is likely set to automatically disconnect after you select "Send and Receive". To turn this feature off follow the following instructions:

[Outlook]
Click 'Tools' from the top menu.
- Select 'Options'
A new window will appear.
- Select the 'Mail Setup' tab
- Under the 'Dial-Up' section, make sure 'Hang up when finished with manual Send/Receive' is NOT ticked.
- Click 'Apply' and then 'Ok' to close the options window.
Outlook shall now stay connected after sending and receiving.

[Outlook Express]
Click 'Tools' from the top menu.
- Select 'Options'
A new window will appear.
- Select the 'Connection' tab
- Make sure 'Hang up after Sending and Receiving' is NOT ticked.
- Click 'Apply' then 'Ok' to return to your 'Inbox'.
Outlook Express shall now stay connected after sending and receiving.

Updating Your Dial Up Number
Our Dial-up number is 0198331326 which is a local call throughout Australia. You can verify your computer is set for this number by following the instructions below. Please verify the number is typed in correctly.

Please note, Amnet is not responsible for any Long Distance (and local toll call) charges that you may incur.

To change your dialup number, please follow these instructions:

Windows 2000 and Window XP
1. Click on the "Start" button.
2. Click on "Settings", then click on "Control Panel". A new window will appear...
3. Click on the icon for "Network and Dialup Connections". You may have to scroll down to find it, because the contents of the Control Panel are listed alphabetically by default. Once you click on the icon, a new window will appear.
4. Using the right mouse button, click once on your Internet connection (This connection may be named "My Connection", "Internet"). A popup menu will appear.
5. Change the phone number to the new number above. Please uncheck "Use are code and Dialing Properties" (Or it may say "Use dialing rules").
6. Click "OK" to save your changes, then you can connect to the Internet as you normally do.
7. Please double check your username is correct.
8. Verify that the password is typed in. (You should see a bunch of X's or *'s if the password is typed in, or it may simply say "click here to change saved password").
9. Click on "Dial".
10. You are now ready to connect using the new dial in number.
Windows 95/98/ME
1. Double click the "My Computer" icon usually located in the upper left hand corner of the Windows desktop.
2. Double click on "Dialup Networking" to open the Dialup Networking Window.
3. Using the right mouse button, click once on your Internet connection. (This connection may be named "Amnet", "Internet" or "My Connection"). A popup menu will appear.
4. Using the left mouse button, click on "properties" at the bottom of the popup menu.
5. Change the phone number to the new number above. Please uncheck "Use area code and Dialing Properties". (Or it may say "Use dialing rules")
6. Click "OK" to close the Properties window, and then connect ot the Internet as you normally would.
7. Please double check your username is correct.
8. Verify that the password is typed in. (You should see a bunch of X's or *'s if the password is typed in)
9. You are now ready to connect using the new dial in number.

Setting Up A Dialup Connection

Windows Dialup Networking Configuration - Windows XP

Creating a New Connection for Amnet:

To create a new Internet connection, follow the instructions below:

Click on Start
Click on Control Panel (or click on Settings and then Control Panel)
On the left hand side, click on Switch to Classic View
Note: If your Control Panel has lots of icons then you are already in Classic View
Double-click on Network Connections
Click on Create a New Connection
You will now be guided through the step by step connection wizard
Click Next to start the process

New Connection Wizard:

Double-click on Connect to the Internet
Click Next to start the process
Select the option Set up my connection manually
Click Next to continue

Adding the Dial-up Connection:

Select the option Connect using a dial-up modem
Click Next to continue
Type Amnet as the ISP name in the space provided
Click Next to continue
Type 019 833 1326 as the dialup number for Amnet. You might need to include a preliminary number to obtain an outside line.
Click Next to continue

Connection Availability:

Select the option "Create this connection for: Anyone's use"
Click Next to continue

Internet Account Information:

Enter your Amnet username and password twice
Select the option Use this account name and password when anyone connects to the Internet from this computer
Select the option Make this the default Internet connection
Do NOT select the option Turn on Internet Connection Firewall for this connection
Click Next to continue

Completing the New Connection Wizard:

Select the option Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop
Click on Finish to exit the Wizard

Installing Windows 95/98 Dialup Networking

Click Start, Settings, Control Panel.
Double-click on the Network icon.
Either or both of the options Dialup Adapter and TCP/IP will be missing from the list. If both options are already present, please follow step 8 below.
Click the Add button.
If Dialup Adapter is missing, click on Adapter and the Add button on the right hand side.
Scroll down the Manufacturers list on the left hand side, and click on Microsoft. Click on Dialup Adapter on the right hand side. Click OK. You may be prompted at this point to insert either your Windows 95/98 CD or Floppy disks to complete the installation.
Windows 95 may ask you to reboot your system at this stage, simply repeat steps 1 - 6 to install TCP/IP, this time making sure to click on Protocols at step 5.

Setting Up Dialup Networking

Pre-Requisite:

You have your modem correctly connected to your computer and installed in Windows 95/98.

On your Desktop, double-click My Computer. If a Dialup Networking folder appears in the window, continue with these instructions. If the folder is not there, refer to the instructions at the beginning of this document to perform the installation of Dialup Networking, then continue with step 2.
Double-click on the Dialup Networking folder to open it. Double click on Make New Connection.
Give this new Connection the name AMNET, by typing the text in the top text box that is displayed. You may need to also select your modem. Click Next.
Set the Area Code to 08, and the telephone number to 9318 1000. Set the Country to Australia 061 by clicking the small down arrow and scrolling up/down the list. Click Next.
Click Finish. You will now see a Connection labeled AMNET in the Dialup Networking folder. Click on it with the RIGHT button of your mouse, and choose Properties from the small menu that appears.
Click the Server Type tab.
The Type of Dialup Server should be set to: PPP: Windows 95/98, Windows NT 3.5, Internet.
Make sure the only options selected are TCP/IP and Enable Software Compression. No other items are required to be selected.
Click on TCP/IP Settings and check that your TCP/IP Settings are the same as this:
That Server assigned IP address and Server assigned name server address” should be selected and Use IP header compression and Use default gateway on remote network should be ticked
NOTE: These settings should already be set.
Click the OK button again.
Click the OK button once again.

Connecting To Amnet

Click on My Computer then Dialup Networking then double click on your AMNET connection. A window will appear prompting you to enter your Username and Password. Enter this information into each box. (Remember that your username should be in lowercase and that your password is case sensitive!) You can then have Windows 95/98 remember the password each time for you, by checking the Save Password box.
Click Connect. Your computer should now connect to AMNET automatically for you. You will notice that your modem will dial, make a series of very loud noises and then eventually go silent. What you are hearing is the modem establishing your connection and this is normal.

Once the Connected Box is displayed, it can be safely minimised. Click on the small character in the top right hand corner of the box or OK button Internet Explorer 5

In Control Panel, select Internet Options. Then click on Connections tab.
Select the dial-up settings you use to connect to AMNET, then click on Settings.(If using over network click LAN Settings...).
Click OK twice to complete the configuration.

Outlook: Scenario 1

Click on Tools menu bar.
Select Services.
Click Add button, and then select Internet E-Mail.
Click OK.
Complete the details of your name and organisation in the appropriate boxes. Your E-mail address and Reply address is username@amnet.net.au.
Click on Servers tab.
Type in mail.amnet.net.au in Outgoing and Incoming mail.
Select Log on using and enter your username and password.
Click on Connection tab.
Click on Connect using my phone line. Select the Dialup Networking connection that you created for AMNET.
Then Click OK.

Outlook: Scenario 2

Click on Tools menu bar.
Select Accounts.
Click Add button, and then select Mail.
Click OK.
Complete the details of your name and organisation in the appropriate boxes. Your E-mail address and Reply address is username@amnet.net.au.
Click on Servers tab.
Ensure the Include the account box is ticked.
Type in mail.amnet.net.au in Outgoing and Incoming mail.
Select Log on using and enter your username and password.
Click on Connection tab.
Click on Connect using my phone line. Select the Dialup Networking connection that you created for AMNET.
Then Click OK
