To access your personal webspace you will need to access what is known as an FTP Server. Essentially an FTP Server is a password secured space that only you can access by typing in your username and password. To access the FTP Server we recommend opening "My Computer" (if you are unfamiliar with "My Computer" open it by simultaneously hitting the windows key and the letter "e" to bring it up). Alternatively for Apple users you can access the FTP server using Safari. To do so follow the following steps.
Step 1: Type ftp://ftp.amnet.net.au/ into the address bar.
Step 2: You'll now need to enter your username and your password.
- For Windows users you will need to select "File" on the menu bar with in "My Computer" then select "Log in as..." then enter your username and password.
- For Apple users the log in menu will automatically appear once you have entered the address, so enter your username and password when prompted.
Step 3: Open the root folder (this is where you save your html files for the webspace) the folder is titled "htdocs".
Step 4: Save your web site home page file to the "htdocs" folder (please note you must name your homepage file "index.html"). Now you've setup your webspace.
To view your webspace enter the URL www.amnet.net.au/~your_username (please note you must type the "~" before your username.
Important: Please ensure that when you setup your main homepage it is named index.html. Amnet's Personal webspace only accepts HTML coded websites. There are a many easy to use web development software suites for example Microsoft Front Page, Adobe Dreamweaver, iWeb and for basic web pages even Microsoft Power Point.
